Who?

Christopher Irvine (Also known as “Chris Jericho”, "Y2J", "The Alloytah of Rock n' Rolla", and many other names) is an American-Canadian wrestler. He was born November 9th, 1970 in Manhasset, NY (though he spent a majority of his youth in Winnipeg, Canada) to NHL’s Ted Irvine and his wife. He is best known for his ability to renew and reinvent himself consistently, as well as his in-ring and promo skills. He currently has his own band under the name of "Fozzy" where he performed a multitude of song covers and original songs, including "Judas", which doubled as his entrance theme for a period of time. Each of his character gimmicks breathes a first breath of air in a variety of comedy, character acting, and ability to connect with the crowd. This page is SOLELY dedicated to his 1997 to his 2005 run (which includes WCW and WWF/WWE), but will be themed around his 2000-2002 character.

Why?

Jericho has a certain character charm (the Jeri-charm, if you will) that really makes you dislike him. Whether it's being annoying in the ring, baiting the audience, or insulting Stephanie, it's much easier to hate him as a heel. Despite this, I actually really like his character quirks; his childishness in WCW, insulting (and at times, misogynistic) attitude in WWF, or his hotheaded energy he gives. I also really love his run as a face when he was initially in WCW: his showcasing of sportsmanship when Alex Wright was out of the ring is a prime example of this. Like his WCW moniker, Jericho really showed the courage of a lion with a heart of gold (I also love his face theme, even though a lot of people tend to forget about it).Of course, it does help that he has a particularly cute facial structure that just oozes non-existent maturity. I think you can take a look at his face, his character acting, and his voice and understand where I’m coming from. By complete chance, I showed my boss the collecting card I had of him, to which they stated that he would “probably smell like coconut oil”... since then, it’s been something I somewhat associate with him pre-2003. His ability to express emotions (especially in certain photos in 2005) showcases his character acting by being able to push facial muscles to create almost cartoonish expressions.

Of course, not everyone has to like him, which is completely fine; I think after 2007, he (personally) becomes a lot less interesting, even with gimmicks like “The List of Jericho”. Being part of a community (especially an online community) means having to encounter a variety of opinions, feelings, and ideas that may conflict with your own. I love hearing criticisms regarding him, in fact, I agree with a lot of them (I do think his run post 2020 was terrible, and later gimmicks down the road are atrocious). However, I do want people to at least give him his flowers. I think he deserves a little something for entertaining us (or, me, specifically). Some feuds I would recommend from him include: Jericho vs Dean Malenko, Jericho vs Triple H, and Battle of the Sexes (2004). The links take you to a complete collection of promos, events, and story development associated with the stories, in case you don’t want to sit through matches. I would also suggest his match against Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania.
